Contreras prefers Cardinals to Cubs: 'It's a better organization'
Willson Contreras isn't wasting any time getting acclimated to the other side of the rivalry between the St. Louis Cardinals and Chicago Cubs.
The 30-year-old appears happy with his decision to depart the Cubs and join the Cardinals on a five-year, $87.5-million deal this offseason.
"For me, I like this better. It's a better organization," he said, according to Bally Sports Midwest.
"Ever since I got here, it's been everything one way - the Cardinal way," Contreras added.
Contreras spent the first seven seasons of his career with the Cubs. He made three All-Star appearances and helped the franchise snap a 108-year World Series drought in 2016.
The catcher is taking over duties behind the plate for his new club after Cardinals legend Yadier Molina retired following 19 seasons with the franchise.
Contreras is happy with how seamless his transition from the Cubs to the Cardinals has been thus far.
"It's not that hard," he said. "Do everything right and respect each other. That's it."
Contreras enjoyed another strong season in 2022. He posted an .815 OPS with 22 home runs and 55 RBIs across 113 games for the Cubs.
