A's trade Pache to Phillies for minor-league pitcher Sullivan

The Oakland Athletics traded outfielder Cristian Pache to the Philadelphia Phillies for minor-league right-hander Billy Sullivan, the team announced Wednesday.

Pache was cut by the A's after hitting .302/.362/.419 this spring. He was out of options, so Oakland had to find a trade partner or designate him for assignment.

The 24-year-old Dominican is a former highly-regarded prospect of the Atlanta Braves. He was sent to the Bay Area in the Matt Olson deal.

Pache struggled in his only season with Oakland, slashing .166/.218/.241 with three home runs and 18 RBIs in 91 games last year. He played excellent defense in center field, though, amassing five defensive runs saved and seven outs above average.

Sullivan spent last season with Double-A Reading, authoring a 4.59 ERA and 13.6 K/9 in 51 innings while walking 36.

The 23-year-old was a 28th-round pick by the Phillies in the 2017 entry draft.
