Lin-Manuel Miranda: 'Enormous source of pride' to have cousin Jose in MLB
The Miranda family reunions are a fascinating occasion.
With the Minnesota Twins visiting the New York Yankees in the Bronx, famous actor and playwright Lin-Manuel Miranda took in Sunday's series finale not only as a fan but as a family member - the cousin of Twins infielder Jose Miranda.
"To actually have someone in the family make it up to the majors is an enormous source of pride," the creator of "Hamilton" said, according to Betsy Helfand of the Pioneer Press. Lin-Manuel also pointed out that the Molina brothers are from the same area of Puerto Rico as the Miranda family: Vega Alta.
Jose Miranda made it to the majors last year, hitting .268/.325/.426 with 15 homers and 66 RBIs while splitting time between first and third base. This year, the 24-year-old is 14-for-59 with two doubles and six RBIs entering Sunday.
Lin-Manuel, meanwhile, has carved his own path to fame as the creator and star of the Broadway musical "Hamilton" and the writer and composer of Disney's "Encanto." His myriad accolades include a Pulitzer, five Grammies, three Tony awards, and a pair of Emmys. That leaves him an Academy Award shy of joining the exclusive EGOT club.
