Dodgers' Muncy: Cardinals catchers bullied umps for favorable calls

Los Angeles Dodgers third baseman Max Muncy believes pressure from the St. Louis Cardinals' catchers influenced several calls during the teams' series this weekend.

Following Sunday's 10-5 loss at Busch Stadium, Muncy said he thought the Cardinals catchers were "bullying" home-plate umpires throughout the series to secure favorable calls, according to AM570's David Vassegh.

"He called it a ball, and for the catcher to sit there and tell him that's a terrible call and he missed it and needs to be better, and then the next one he gives it to him," Muncy said, according to Bill Plunkett of the Orange County Register. "That, to me, is where the frustration was coming from. I felt like that was happening all weekend long."

Muncy was ejected from the game in the top of the fourth inning for arguing balls and strikes. He appeared to take aim at third-base umpire Paul Emmel.

Emmel was behind the plate for the Cardinals' 6-5 win Saturday. He rung up Mookie Betts on a pitch that appeared to be off the plate for the final out of the game.

The Cardinals won the four-game series between the two clubs this weekend to avenge a three-game sweep at the hands of the Dodgers in April.
