Report: Angels not close to Ohtani trade decision
The Los Angeles Angels haven't decided if they'll trade Shohei Ohtani before the Aug. 1 deadline, sources told MLB Network's Jon Morosi.
Teams interested in Ohtani have already contacted Los Angeles, but the club will likely wait until 24-48 hours before the deadline to decide the superstar's future, Morosi adds.
The Angels reportedly won't trade the two-way sensation to the in-state rival Los Angeles Dodgers if they decide to move him.
Ohtani is a top trade target for clubs throughout the league, with the pending free agent having another MVP-caliber season. The 29-year-old leads the majors with 35 home runs and is slashing .306/.397/.678 with 76 RBIs and 11 steals.
The right-hander has also dazzled as a pitcher, authoring a 3.50 ERA and 11.9 K/9 in 105 1/3 innings.
The Angels enter Thursday at 49-48 after sweeping the reeling New York Yankees. They're nine games back of the Texas Rangers for the top spot in the American League West and 4.5 games back of the last wild-card spot.
