It looks like the Los Angeles Dodgers will have some competition for the services of Chicago White Sox right-hander Lucas Giolito, who is expected to be traded before the Aug. 1 deadline.

The Arizona Diamondbacks have inquired about the 29-year-old's availability, sources told MLB Network's Jon Morosi.

Arizona's interest comes one week after a report surfaced linking the Dodgers to the California native.

The Diamondbacks, like the Dodgers, are in serious need of starting pitching depth. Merrill Kelly and Zach Davies are currently sidelined with injuries, leaving Arizona short on arms behind ace Zac Gallen.

Giolito, who struggled in his last start but has been solid overall, could fill that void. The pending free agent owns a 3.96 ERA and 9.5 K/9 across 20 starts. The righty also has a solid track record of success, finishing top 11 in AL Cy Young voting in three consecutive seasons between 2019-2021.

The Diamondbacks and Dodgers are battling with the San Francisco Giants for top spot in the National League West, with Los Angeles holding a two-game lead over both of its rivals.
