Hurricane Hilary forces 3 SoCal teams to play Saturday doubleheaders

Major League Baseball's three Southern California teams adjusted their weekend schedules due to the impending landfall of Hurricane Hilary.

The Los Angeles Dodgers, Los Angeles Angels, and San Diego Padres announced Friday that they will play split doubleheaders at their home ballparks Saturday to avoid the storm. All three teams and their respective opponents - the Miami Marlins, Tampa Bay Rays, and Arizona Diamondbacks - will now have Sunday off.

All three home teams announced that tickets for Sunday's rescheduled games are valid for the first game of each doubleheader. Tickets originally sold for Saturday are valid for the evening games.

Hurricane Hilary, now a Category 4 hurricane, is expected to reach the United States at some point Sunday, according to CNN. It's anticipated to bring large amounts of rain to a region of the country that isn't used to such weather or intense storms. A tropical storm watch was issued for parts of Southern California on Friday, the first time that's ever happened.

If Hilary's rain does hit Southern California as expected, some games next week could also be affected. The Angels are scheduled to host the Reds in Anaheim on Monday, the same night that the Marlins are supposed to open a series in San Diego. The Dodgers, Rays, and D-Backs are all slated to fly elsewhere after this weekend.
