The Toronto Blue Jays' biggest offensive addition at the trade deadline didn't even stick on the roster through August.

Shortstop Paul DeJong was designated for assignment Saturday in order to make room for Bo Bichette's return from the injured list.

Acquired from the St. Louis Cardinals for minor-league pitcher Matt Svanson on Aug. 1, DeJong struggled to find his footing with the Blue Jays. He went 3-for-44 with no walks, one RBI, and 18 strikeouts in 13 games.

The 30-year-old hit .211/.269/.365 with 13 homers in 94 games with the Cardinals this season prior to the trade.

DeJong has a $12.5-million team option for 2024 that includes a $2-million buyout.

Bichette had been sidelined with a knee injury since July 31.
