The San Diego Padres placed starting pitcher Yu Darvish on the 15-day injured list with right elbow inflammation, the club announced Monday.
Right-hander Matt Waldron was recalled from Triple-A El Paso in a corresponding roster move.
Darvish has struggled for the Padres this season, posting an 8-10 record with a 4.56 ERA and 141 strikeouts across 136 1/3 innings.
The Padres signed the 36-year-old to a six-year, $108-million contract extension in February. He has spent the last three seasons in San Diego after being acquired in a trade with the Chicago Cubs.
Darvish navigated a serious elbow injury and missed the entire 2015 campaign after undergoing Tommy John surgery as a member of the Texas Rangers.
