Former mistress claims Yankees GM knew of steroid use
A former mistress of Yankees general manager Brian Cashman has accused the executive of deliberately misleading investigators during the Roger Clemens investigation, while adding that Cashman was fully aware of steroid use in the Yankee clubhouse, Ted Berg of USA Today reports.
Louise Neathway, who has been charged with stalking and extorting Cashman, said the Yankees boss told her he "knew of Yankee clubhouse steroid use by various Yankee players by name" and "was ambivalent to the use of performance enhancement drugs so long as nothing came back to the Yankee organization," according to papers filed in Manhattan Supreme Court.
.
Neathway's claims were outlined a petition that insists Alex Rodriguez's newly hired lawyer, Joe Tacopina, has a conflict of interest in Rodriguez's case because his partner represents Neathway and was privy to information from Neathway's relationship with Cashman that could help Rodriguez's case against the Yankees.
The 37-year-old Neathway -- who also goes by the surname Meanwell -- is currently facing 52 criminal charges including stalking, harassment, lying to a grand jury, criminal impersonation and grand larceny.
