Yankees' rising star Domínguez has torn UCL
New York Yankees outfielder Jasson Domínguez has a torn ulnar collateral ligament in his right elbow and will miss the rest of the season.
"We don't have a surgery scheduled yet, so we'll see," manager Aaron Boone announced Sunday, per YES Network. "With a position player, it's usually 9-10 months (recovery)."
Boone said Domínguez first felt soreness in his elbow last week in Houston.
The 20-year-old prospect underwent treatment Wednesday but was unable to swing the bat with force prior to Sunday's game against the Milwaukee Brewers. He was a late scratch so he could undergo testing, which revealed the UCL tear.
"It's definitely very shocking news," Domínguez said, according to MLB.com's Bryan Hoch. "You're never expecting for this to be the result. Now understanding what happened, we have to look forward and go through it."
Domínguez had four homers and seven RBIs in eight games after getting called up at the beginning of September.
The Yankees placed Domínguez on the injured list Monday and selected outfielder Estevan Florial to take his spot on the active roster.
