Showalter not returning as Mets manager in 2024
Buck Showalter's time in New York has come to an end.
The 67-year-old said he won't return to manage the Mets in 2024.
"I wish things could have gone better this season because Mets fans deserve that. ... It's not the ending I wanted, but I still love the city and the players," Showalter said.

The veteran skipper said the organization wanted to go in a different direction at manager with new leadership coming aboard. New York reportedly hired former Milwaukee Brewers executive David Stearns to run their baseball operations department next season.
"Buck is a generational manager, and we value what he has done for our team, including leading us to a 101-win season and postseason berth last year. The commitment and heart that Buck brings to the game will be felt by our organization for years to come. We wish Buck all the best in the next chapter of his career," Mets owner Steve Cohen said in a statement.

New York hired Showalter to manage the Mets before the 2022 campaign.
The four-time manager of the year was in charge of a Mets club that entered Sunday with a disappointing 74-86 record. He helped the team win 101 games last season.
