Report: Showalter in consideration for Angels' managerial opening

Buck Showalter is a candidate for the vacant Los Angeles Angels manager job, sources told MLB Network's Jon Morosi.

The Angels are looking for a new manager after declining the 2024 option on Phil Nevin's contract earlier this month.

Showalter was fired by the New York Mets after nearly two seasons at the helm. The 67-year-old led the club to a 101-61 record in 2022 en route to winning Manager of the Year for the fourth time in his career.

The Mets regressed in 2023 despite having baseball's highest payroll, finishing a disappointing 75-87 and fourth in the National League East.

The Angels endured another difficult season in 2023, finishing 73-89 to miss the postseason for the ninth consecutive campaign. Los Angeles hasn't qualified for the playoffs since 2014.

The Angels are entering a pivotal offseason with two-way star and presumptive AL MVP favorite Shohei Ohtani scheduled to hit the open market in free agency.
