Arizona Diamondbacks second baseman Ketel Marte was named NLCS MVP following the Snakes' seven-game series win over the Philadelphia Phillies on Tuesday.
Marte hit a blistering .387/.406/.581 over the series while ripping 12 hits, five extra-base hits, and three RBIs.
The 30-year-old is the second Diamondbacks player to claim NLCS MVP honors, joining Craig Counsell in 2001. He's the seventh infielder to win the award since it was first presented in 1977 and the sixth Dominican-born player to win it in either league.
Marte has been on an absolute tear during the playoffs. He's hitting .371/.389/.657 with three homers, nine RBIs, eight extra-base hits, and two stolen bases, and he's reached base safely in all 12 postseason contests.
His double in Game 7 extended his playoff hitting streak to 16 games dating back to 2017, a new record to start a postseason career. Marte will have a chance to tie the record for the longest postseason hitting streak in Game 1 of the World Series, according to Sarah Langs of MLB.com.
Marte, a member of the D-Backs since 2017, has used this playoff run to jump to the top of the franchise's postseason record books. He's now the team's all-time leader in postseason extra-base hits (11), total bases (46), doubles (five, tied with Tony Womack and Matt Williams), and triples (three), among other categories.
