White Sox decline Anderson's $14M option
The Chicago White Sox declined a $14-million club option for the 2024 season on shortstop Tim Anderson, the team announced.
Anderson receives a $1-million buyout and becomes a free agent after spending his entire eight-year career with the White Sox.
The 30-year-old struggled in 2023, hitting just .245 with a .582 OPS, one home run, 25 RBIs, and 13 stolen bases in 123 games.
Anderson is a two-time All-Star, one-time Silver Slugger, and won the American League batting title in 2019 with a .335 average.
He spoke about entering the offseason with an added sense of motivation after a tough year in 2023.
"The hunger is there probably more than it ever has been," Anderson said in September, according to MLB.com's Scott Merkin. "I'm just excited for the offseason and curious to see how things are going to go."
Anderson is a career .282 hitter with 528 runs scored, 338 RBIs, and 117 stolen bases across 895 games.
