Giants' Conforto exercises $18M option
San Francisco Giants outfielder Michael Conforto is exercising his $18-million player option for the 2024 season.
"I'm excited to be back and can't wait to get to work!" Conforto said while expressing optimism and excitement about playing for new manager Bob Melvin, according to The Athletic's Andrew Baggarly.
"I'm excited to get to know him. I've only heard great things from players and coaches who have worked with him. I know the rest of the guys are pumped as well."
Conforto joined the Giants on a two-year, $36-million contract ahead of the 2023 campaign. He gained the player option after reaching 350 plate appearances.
The 30-year-old returned to action after missing the entire 2022 season with a shoulder injury.
Conforto hit .239 with a .718 OPS, 15 home runs, and 58 RBIs across 125 games for the Giants last season.
He is a career .253 hitter with 147 home runs and 454 RBIs in 882 games. Conforto spent the first seven seasons of his career with the New York Mets.
