San Diego Padres chairman and owner Peter Seidler died Tuesday. He was 63.

"The Padres organization mourns the passing of our beloved chairman and owner, Peter Seidler," CEO Erik Greupner said in a statement. "Today, our love and prayers encircle Peter's family as they grieve the loss of an extraordinary husband, father, son, brother, uncle, and friend.

"His impact on the city of San Diego and the baseball world will be felt for generations," Greupner added. "His generous spirit is now firmly embedded in the fabric of the Padres. Although he was our chairman and owner, Peter was at his core a Padres fan. He will be dearly missed."

Seidler underwent an unspecified medical procedure in August but said in September he was on the road to recovery.

"I am deeply saddened by the news of Peter's passing," MLB commissioner Rob Manfred said in a statement. "Peter grew up in a baseball family, and his love of the game was evident throughout his life. He was passionate about owning the Padres and bringing the fans of San Diego a team in which they could always take pride."

The Padres will pause their managerial search and are expected to name a new manager before Thanksgiving next week, a source told Kevin Acee of the San Diego Union-Tribune.

Ownership of the organization is expected to remain in the Seidler family, a source told Acee.

Seidler purchased the Padres in 2012 as part of the O'Malley Group and bought a majority stake in 2020.

The Padres increased payroll in each of the four seasons after Seidler took a majority stake, going from $157 million in 2020 to a franchise-record $255 million last season.
