Report: Brewers, Chourio nearing record 8-year pact worth close to $80M

The Milwaukee Brewers and outfield prospect Jackson Chourio are closing in on what would be a record-breaking eight-year deal worth close to $80 million, Jon Heyman of the New York Post reports.

The contract would be the richest in MLB history for a player yet to make his major-league debut. The record is currently held by Luis Robert Jr. and the Chicago White Sox, who agreed to a six-year, $50-million pact prior to the 2020 campaign.

Chourio currently ranks as the No. 2 prospect in baseball, according to MLB Pipeline.

The 19-year-old from Venezuela has only played six games above Double-A, which came last season with the Nashville Sounds of the International League.

Chourio spent most of the 2023 campaign with Double-A Biloxi, slashing .280/.336/.467 with 22 home runs, 23 doubles, 89 RBIs, and 43 steals.

An $80-million deal for Chourio would equal the third-richest contract in Brewers history.

Milwaukee signed outfielder Lorenzo Cain to a five-year, $80-million free-agent contract in 2018, while extensions for Christian Yelich (a nine-year, $215-million deal in 2020) and Ryan Braun (a five-year, $105-million deal in 2011) were worth more.
