Report: Marlins hiring former Giants manager Kapler as assistant GM
The Miami Marlins are hiring former San Francisco Giants and Philadelphia Phillies manager Gabe Kapler as assistant general manager under new president of baseball operations Peter Bendix, sources told Craig Mish of the Miami Herald.
Miami was intrigued by Kapler's success in player development during his time as farm director of the Los Angeles Dodgers, which came before he joined the MLB ranks as a manager, a source told The Athletic's Ken Rosenthal.
Kapler's main role will come in player development, but he'll be involved in all areas of baseball operations, Rosenthal adds.
The Giants dismissed the 2021 National League Manager of the Year in September after four seasons with the organization.
Miami hired Bendix in November after Kim Ng departed in October. The Marlins made the postseason in 2023, their first playoff appearance in a non-shortened season since 2003.
