Brewers, Chourio agree to 8-year contract reportedly worth $82M
The Milwaukee Brewers signed top prospect Jackson Chourio to an eight-year contract through 2031 with club options for 2032 and 2033, the team announced Monday.
"We are extremely excited to make this unprecedented commitment to a player we believe to be a generational talent who has all the tools to be the face of our franchise," Brewers general manager Matt Arnold said in a statement.
Chourio's deal guarantees the 19-year-old will be paid $82 million, sources told ESPN's Jeff Passan.
The two club options could reportedly take the maximum value of his contract to $142.5 million.
Chourio's contract is the richest in MLB history for a player yet to make his major-league debut. The previous record belonged to Luis Robert Jr. and the Chicago White Sox, who agreed to a six-year, $50-million deal in 2020.
Chourio is the No. 2 prospect in baseball, according to MLB.com.
He hit .280 with an .803 OPS, 22 home runs, 43 stolen bases, and 89 RBIs over 122 games for Double-A Biloxi in 2023. He also made six appearances for the Brewers' Triple-A affiliate in Nashville, hitting .333 with three doubles and a pair of RBIs.
