Report: Tigers add Flaherty on 1-year, $14M deal
The Detroit Tigers and veteran right-hander Jack Flaherty agreed to a one-year, $14-million contract, sources told ESPN's Jeff Passan.
Flaherty posted an 8-9 record with a 4.99 ERA and 148 strikeouts across 144 1/3 innings with the St. Louis Cardinals and Baltimore Orioles last season.
The 28-year-old's contract can max out at $15 million, Passan reports. There's also as much as $1 million in bonuses if Flaherty makes 30 starts for the Tigers in 2024.
Flaherty owns a lifetime 42-34 record with a 3.75 ERA, 4.01 FIP, and 748 strikeouts over 667 2/3 innings during his seven-year MLB career.
The Tigers also signed veteran right-hander Kenta Maeda to a two-year, $24-million contract in November to bolster the starting rotation.
Detroit's starting pitchers ranked 16th in the league in ERA, 18th in wins, and 21st in strikeouts last season.
