Report: White Sox seeking multiple high-end prospects in Cease talks
The Chicago White Sox are setting the price high in trade talks involving right-hander Dylan Cease.
Chicago is seeking multiple high-end prospects in trade discussions, teams involved in the process told ESPN's Jesse Rogers.
The Atlanta Braves discussed a Cease trade with the White Sox before ultimately acquiring Chris Sale in a deal with the Boston Red Sox, sources told Rogers.
Cease is under team control for two more seasons before he's scheduled to reach free agency after the 2025 campaign. The 28-year-old is projected to earn $8.8 million in arbitration for the 2024 season, according to MLB Trade Rumors.
White Sox general manager Chris Getz acknowledged Tuesday that there's been substantial interest in Cease.
"In the case of Dylan, I don't think there's a club out there that hasn't expressed some level of interest in him," Getz said.
Cease finished the 2023 season with a 7-9 record and a 4.58 ERA, and he racked up 214 strikeouts across 177 innings.
His best season came in 2022, when he finished runner-up to Justin Verlander in AL Cy Young voting.
