Orioles invite MLB's top prospect Holliday to spring training
Baseball's top prospect will be at spring training.
The Baltimore Orioles invited star infielder Jackson Holliday to big-league camp, the team announced Tuesday.
The 20-year-old was among 20 non-roster players who received an invite. The list also included MLB's No. 17-ranked prospect, Samuel Basallo, and No. 30-ranked prospect, Coby Mayo.
Orioles general manager Mike Elias said Holliday will play mostly at second base during the spring, according to Jake Rill of MLB.com. The executive added the team also wants to keep the top prospect "warm" at shortstop, which is his primary position.
Holliday tore up the minor leagues in 2023 after the Orioles selected him with the first overall pick in the 2022 draft.
The son of former big-leaguer Matt Holliday slashed .323/.442/.499 with 12 home runs, 30 doubles, 75 RBIs, and 24 stolen bases across four levels.
