The Miami Marlins recently made a contract offer to free-agent infielder Tim Anderson, sources told The Athletic's Ken Rosenthal.

Anderson spent the first eight seasons of his MLB career with the Chicago White Sox. The 30-year-old made a pair of All-Star Game appearances, won a Silver Slugger in 2020, and claimed the AL batting title in 2019 after hitting .335 in 123 games.

Anderson struggled in 2023, hitting a career-worst .245 with one home run and a .582 OPS across 123 appearances for the White Sox. Chicago declined its $14-million option on Anderson for 2024.

Anderson has spent his career at shortstop but has indicated a willingness to play either second or third base, according to Rosenthal. The Marlins are currently expected to begin the season with veteran Jon Berti as their starting shortstop.

Miami is the only MLB team yet to sign a free agent this offseason. The Marlins are currently projected to enter the season with the league's 28th-highest payroll at $75.8 million.
