MRI reveals Braves' Strider has damaged UCL in elbow
Atlanta Braves ace Spencer Strider underwent an MRI on Saturday, which revealed damage to the UCL in his right elbow, the team announced.
He'll be evaluated by Dr. Keith Meister at a date yet to be determined.
"It wasn't good," Braves manager Brian Snitker said of Strider's MRI, per The Athletic's David O'Brien.
Strider struggled during an outing Friday while dealing with elbow discomfort. He allowed five runs on seven hits with four strikeouts and three walks across four innings against the Arizona Diamondbacks.
"You hate that," Snitker added, according to The Associated Press. "You hate it for him. I feel really bad for him. I mean, the kid does everything right. Loves to compete. ... We'll just wait and see what they decide to do. ... I'm sure they'll have something in a few days."
The 25-year-old's velocity was down from his first outing of the season. His average fastball Friday dropped by 1.3 mph compared to his start against the Philadelphia Phillies.
Strider previously underwent Tommy John surgery in 2019, costing him the entire 2020 campaign.
The Braves placed Strider on the 15-day injured list with a right elbow UCL sprain and recalled right-hander Allan Winans on Sunday.
