Angels' Washington: Ump called game like he had flight to catch

Los Angeles Angels manager Ron Washington took issue with home plate umpire Doug Eddings' strike zone during Wednesday's game against the Tampa Bay Rays.

Eddings rung up Matt Thaiss for strike three on a borderline call to begin the ninth inning of the Angels' 4-2 loss to the Rays.

"I do think in that ninth inning, he must have had a flight that he was missing," Washington said postgame, per The Athletic's Sam Blum. "That's exactly the way he called the game. He called the game like he had somewhere to go."

Washington appeared to have some choice words for Eddings after Rays closer Pete Fairbanks struck out Mickey Moniak to end the game.

The Angels dropped to 6-6 on the season after losing the final two games of their series with the Rays.
