Bonds, Leyland headline Pirates' 2024 HOF class
Barry Bonds, Jim Leyland, and Manny Sanguillen will be inducted into the Pittsburgh Pirates Hall of Fame.
"As an organization, we are proud to add three significant members to the Pittsburgh Pirates Hall of Fame," Pirates chairman Robert Nutting said in a statement. "Included in this year's class is a two-time MVP award winner in Barry, two-time Manager of the Year in Jim, and a two-time World Series champion with the Pirates in Manny. All three inductees are very deserving of this prestigious recognition."
Bonds played for the Pirates from 1986-92. He won a pair of National League MVPs, three Gold Gloves, and two Silver Sluggers during his stint with the club. He trails only Willie Stargell, Ralph Kiner, Roberto Clemente, and Andrew McCutchen on the Pirates' all-time home run list with 176 long balls.
“We built a bond that no way it’s ever going to be broken.”

"That's who drafted me," Bonds said. "Couldn't have had a better manager, a better team, a better starting point for me. It was perfect. We built a bond that there's no way it's ever going to be broken."
Leyland posted an 851-863 record in 11 seasons as the manager of the Pirates. He led Pittsburgh to three consecutive NLCS appearances from 1990-92, racking up 289 regular-season victories during that span. Leyland will also join the Baseball Hall of Fame in July after he was elected last December.
Sanguillen spent 12 seasons with the Pirates, helping the club win the World Series in 1971 and 1979. The longtime catcher made three All-Star appearances and hit .299 with 59 home runs and 527 RBIs across 1,296 games with Pittsburgh.
