Giants' Chapman calls game-winning defensive gem best play of his career
San Francisco Giants third baseman Matt Chapman thinks the game-winning defensive gem he made against the New York Mets on Friday is the best of his career.
"I think it's the most excited I've ever gotten after a play," Chapman told reporters after his team came from behind to defeat the Mets 8-7 to win their third straight game, according to SF Giants on NBCS.
"The situation, obviously, and how these last four games have been going, it's just been crazy games, so to be able to have a walk-off play on defense like that, with the bases loaded, game on the line, I think that's probably the best one for sure."
With the bases loaded and two outs in the ninth inning of Friday's game, Mets hitter Mark Vientos hit a slow roller down the third base line on a 3-2 pitch from Giants closer Camilo Doval. The dribbler looked problematic for the Giants, who held a tight lead, before Chapman's defensive heroics secured the win.

After LaMonte Wade Jr. made a terrific scoop of his own to secure the comeback victory, the broadcast said Chapman excitedly high-fived every one of his teammates in the dugout.
"My goodness, that was one of the best plays I've ever seen made on a baseball field," Giants catcher Patrick Bailey said of Chapman's work, according to Mike Fitzpatrick of The Associated Press.
It's the third straight contest in which the Giants erased a four-run deficit to win a road game. They're just the second team since 1900 to achieve the feat.
