Jays GM: Trading Vlad, Bo 'doesn't make any sense'
With trade rumors swirling, Toronto Blue Jays GM Ross Atkins rebuffed the idea of trading Vladimir Guerrero Jr. or Bo Bichette.
"It just doesn't make any sense for us," Atkins told MLB Network Radio during an interview Sunday.
He added, "It's not something that we have spent any time on, but because they are so talented and such great teammates, they are attractive to other teams."
Guerrero, who finished second in 2021 AL MVP voting, owns a .292/.390/.796 slash line on the season. Bichette has struggled to overcome a slow start (84 OPS+) but led MLB in hits in both 2021 and 2022.
Atkins said he considers both young stars long-term pieces.
"We believe in them," he said. "We believe in their futures and hope that there's a way they can play here for a long time."
When asked about instead making a potential managerial change, Atkins called current Blue Jays skipper John Schneider "incredible" and part of the solution rather than the problem, per The Athletic's Jim Bowden.
The Blue Jays entered Sunday's game against the Pirates with a 27-30 record, good for last place in the AL East.
