The Minnesota Twins optioned second baseman Edouard Julien to Triple-A St. Paul, the team announced Monday.

The Twins didn't announce a corresponding move but are expected to activate Royce Lewis off the injured list Tuesday.

Julien has struggled in his sophomore season after finishing seventh in AL Rookie of the Year voting in 2023. The 25-year-old has struck out in 34% of his plate appearances while posting a .207/.309/.367 slash line this season.

After recording seven home runs in April, Julien's power stroke eroded as he hit zero in 27 games in May.

Assuming Lewis returns to third base, Willi Castro will likely see most of the playing time at second base for the Twins. Jose Miranda could also see his share of appearances at the keystone.

Minnesota enjoys an off day Monday before traveling to New York for a three-game series with the Yankees.
