Blue Jays' Manoah to undergo season-ending elbow surgery
Toronto Blue Jays right-hander Alek Manoah will undergo season-ending surgery to repair the UCL in his right elbow on June 17, manager John Schneider said Friday, according to Sportsnet's Shi Davidi.
Schneider added that the exact procedure Manoah will have is still being determined. He could have Tommy John surgery, or his UCL could be repaired with an internal brace.
Manoah exited a start against the Chicago White Sox on May 29 with right elbow discomfort. He was placed on the 15-day injured list with an elbow sprain after undergoing an MRI.
The injury is the latest setback for Manoah, who began the season on the injured list with shoulder inflammation.
Manoah posted a 3.70 ERA in five starts for the Blue Jays this season after struggling in 2023 when he was demoted, shut down, and put on the temporarily inactive list.
The 26-year-old finished third in American League Cy Young voting during an All-Star campaign in 2022, winning 16 games and posting a 2.24 ERA in 196 2/3 innings.
