Jays' Kikuchi levels A's Soderstrom trying to avoid pop-up at dugout
Of course one of the most bizarre plays of the season happened at the Oakland Coliseum.
In the top of the 10th inning of Sunday's game between the Athletics and Toronto Blue Jays, Toronto's Davis Schneider lifted a pop-up toward the visiting dugout. A's first baseman Tyler Soderstrom had a bead on it thanks to the Coliseum's vast foul territory until Blue Jays pitcher Yusei Kikuchi accidentally flattened Soderstrom while trying to get out of the way.
The umpire called Schneider out because of Kikuchi's obstruction, meaning the play was officially scored as a pop-up to the first baseman. Soderstrom remained in the game, and it appeared as though Kikuchi was no worse for wear in the dugout.
Kikuchi said postgame that he felt embarrassed by what happened.

Kikuchi said he forgot the absence of a dugout railing in Oakland and was embarrassed by the incident:
“After, I just wanted to create a little hole and hide inside it.”
The incident almost devolved into something bigger: Words appeared to be exchanged between the two teams. Several Blue Jays were on the top steps of their dugout before umpires restored order.

A microphone also caught someone - it was unclear whether it was a fan or a member of the Blue Jays - heckling Oakland pitcher Austin Adams after the play.

After the chaos died down, Adams eventually got the third out of the inning, but it was too little too late for the A's. Earlier in the 10th, Toronto's Isiah Kiner-Falefa hit a bases-clearing double to give the Blue Jays a 6-4 victory.
