Betts expected to miss 6-8 weeks with fractured hand

Los Angeles Dodgers shortstop Mookie Betts is expected to miss about six-to-eight weeks with a fractured left hand, manager Dave Roberts said Monday, according to Jack Harris of the Los Angeles Times.

Betts sustained the injury when he was hit by a 98-mph fastball from Kansas City Royals pitcher Dan Altavilla in Sunday's game.

"There's going to be a couple weeks of inactivity with that hand is my assumption," Roberts said, per Patrick Lyons of Just Baseball Media.

Roberts also said that Shohei Ohtani will lead off against right-handed pitching in Betts' absence, but he hasn't decided who will hit there against left-handers, according to MLB.com's Juan Toribio.

Ohtani has made 64 leadoff appearances in his career and owns an .882 OPS with 14 home runs across 234 at-bats in that spot.

Veteran Miguel Rojas is expected to take over as the Dodgers' primary shortstop in Betts' absence.
