Los Angeles Angels pitcher Patrick Sandoval said he has high-grade flexor tear and torn UCL in his throwing arm that will require Tommy John surgery, per MLB.com's Rhett Bollinger.

Sandoval hit the IL on Saturday with an elbow sprain after exiting Friday night's start against the Dodgers with an apparent injury. He walked off in visible discomfort alongside team trainers.

A typical Tommy John recovery timeline - which can range from 12 to 18 months - could keep Sandoval out until 2026.

The 27-year-old left-hander, now in his fifth year with the Angels, pitched to a 5.08 ERA and 1.51 WHIP across 16 starts in 2024. He's arbitration-eligible but still under team control for two more seasons.

Sandoval owns a career 4.01 ERA over 536 MLB innings.
