New York Mets outfielder Brandon Nimmo won't play in Monday's series opener against the Washington Nationals after fainting in his hotel bathroom and suffering a gash on his head, according to Newsday's Tim Healey.

Nimmo was examined at a local hospital following the incident, where he remained until early Monday afternoon before joining the Mets at Nationals Park. He did not suffer a concussion, Mets manager Carlos Mendoza said, per Healey.

Nimmo described the incident to reporters, explaining that he got up for a drink of water in the middle of the night after feeling an upset stomach and then cramped up suddenly. After that, the next thing he remembers is waking up confused and finding blood on his face, leading him to call for help. He has no recollection of how or when he hit his head.

Nimmo won't be available on Monday, as he's still feeling weak from a lack of sleep and food. However, he's hoping to be ready to return on Tuesday, according to Anthony DiComo of MLB.com.

The 31-year-old is enjoying a solid all-around season for the Mets, hitting .247/.367/.448 with 13 homers and 50 RBIs over his first 77 games.

Jeff McNeil got the start in left field for Nimmo on Monday night, with Harrison Bader in center and Tyrone Taylor manning right.
