Reds' India understands trade rumors: 'It's a business'
Cincinnati Reds infielder Jonathan India is well aware he could be on the move with the July 30 trade deadline looming.
The Reds are 40-45 and sit four games back of the final NL wild-card spot. India would be a valuable trade chip as he's not scheduled to hit free agency until the end of the 2026 season.
"From the business side, it makes more sense for me to go to a winning team and help a team out," India said, according to Gordon Wittenmyer of The Cincinnati Enquirer. "At the end of the day, I've been through this last year. And it's a business."
India is putting together a resurgent offensive season in 2024. The 27-year-old is coming off winning NL Player of the Week and set a franchise record with a double in seven consecutive games.
"Whatever happens, happens. All I can do is control my play," India said. "If I go, I go. It's just part of it. It would suck. Hopefully, I would go to a winning team and help my career and be better for it at the end of the day. But I never want to leave this place. I love it here. I love the organization."
India owns a 123 wRC+ with five home runs, 39 runs scored, and 34 RBIs and has accrued 2.1 fWAR in 78 games this season.
