Soto wants to stay with one team 'for a long time'
New York Yankees All-Star outfielder Juan Soto has played for three franchises in less than two years and is looking forward to finding a long-term home in the offseason.
"It's a little uncomfortable wearing different jerseys and changing teams," Soto said Monday, according to ESPN's Jorge Castillo. "I'm looking forward to wearing one for a long time."
Soto was traded from the Washington Nationals to the San Diego Padres in 2022. The Padres then shipped Soto to the Yankees in a blockbuster deal last December.
The 25-year-old is expected to be the marquee free agent in the offseason and could command a contract in excess of $500 million.
"If I knew the future, I would play the lottery," Soto said. "Nobody knows the future. At the end of the day, I'm enjoying this moment, representing the New York Yankees. ... I'm very happy to be part of (the game), but nobody knows what will happen next year."
Soto has hit 23 home runs with 66 RBIs, 75 runs scored, and a 175 OPS+ across 94 games for the Yankees this season.
The four-time All-Star acknowledged being part of a winning team will factor into his decision when assessing his future.
"Who wouldn't want to be with a team that wins?" Soto said. "For me, while you're on a winning team, it's always good to be there and be a part of it."
The Yankees entered the All-Star break with a 58-40 record and trail the Baltimore Orioles by one game for first place in the AL East.
