Blue Jays' Bichette out multiple weeks with calf strain

The Toronto Blue Jays placed shortstop Bo Bichette on the 10-day injured list with a moderate right calf strain.

He's expected to be sidelined for multiple weeks with the issue, Jays manager John Schneider told Sportsnet's Arden Zwelling.

Bichette left Friday's 5-4 loss to the Detroit Tigers with the injury following an at-bat in the bottom of the sixth inning.

Bichette lined out to end the sixth and was checked on by the training staff before exiting the contest. Leo Jiménez took over at shortstop to start the top of the seventh.

"I just feel bad for him," Schneider said, according to MLB.com's Keegan Matheson. "It sucks for him and for us."

The two-time All-Star had a stint on the injured list in June due to a calf strain and was sidelined for the last four games before the All-Star break with calf soreness.

Bichette has struggled through the worst season of his career in 2024. The 26-year-old is hitting .223 with four home runs, 30 RBIs, and a .597 OPS across 79 contests.

The Blue Jays recalled utility player Addison Barger to take Bichette's place on the active roster.
