The Tampa Bay Rays placed first baseman Yandy Díaz on the restricted list Saturday.

Díaz did not travel to New York on Thursday and missed Friday's game against the Yankees due to "a personal matter," manager Kevin Cash told Marc Topkin of the Tampa Bay Times.

"Probably leave it at that," Cash said.

The Rays added that Díaz is dealing with a family matter, according to Topkin. Cash said the team is taking it day-by-day as to when Díaz could return.

Díaz was an All-Star in 2023 and won the AL batting title after hitting .330/.410/.522 with 22 home runs and 78 RBIs in 137 games.

He hasn't had the same results this year, slashing .273/.329/.396 with 46 RBIs in 94 contests.

Tampa Bay recalled infielder Curtis Mead in a corresponding move.

The Rays enter Saturday fourth in the AL East and 5.5 games back of the final AL wild-card spot.
