Bochy: 'Zito will start real soon'
At the beginning of September, manager Bruce Bochy didn't see Barry Zito starting another game in a San Francisco Giants uniform.
Seven seasons and 206 games since crossing the bridge from Oakland as a free agent in 2007, the 35-year-old will have one more shot on the mound at AT&T Park, Bochy told media Tuesday.
Exactly when Bochy wouldn't say, but confirmed it would be "real soon". The Giants play a three-game set with the Dodgers followed by the season's finale, a three-game homestand with the Padres.
The left-hander hasn't won a game since May 30 and saw his ERA skyrocket to 5.91 as the season progressed. In 13 starts since the last win, he's only made it to six innings three times.
San Francisco owns an $18 million option on Zito for 2014 with a $7 million buyout.
Zito is making $20 million in 2013, the final season of his seven-year, $126 million contract.
