Former Cy Young Award winner Robbie Ray will make his first start with the San Francisco Giants on Wednesday against the Los Angeles Dodgers, manager Bob Melvin announced, according to Alex Pavlovic of NBC Sports Bay Area.

Ray hasn't made an appearance in the majors since last March when he was still with the Seattle Mariners. He only made one start for Seattle in 2023 before undergoing surgery to repair both a torn flexor tendon and ulnar collateral ligament in his left elbow.

Since getting a clean bill of health in early June, Ray has made 10 rehab appearances at various minor-league levels. He allowed just one hit while striking out seven over 5 1/3 innings in his final tuneup start for Triple-A Sacramento on Friday.

San Francisco acquired the 32-year-old left-hander from Seattle in January for Mitch Haniger and Anthony DeSclafani. Ray, who's earning $23 million this season, has another two years remaining on the five-year, $115-million deal he signed with the Mariners in 2022. He can opt out of the deal after this season.

A veteran of 10 big-league seasons, Ray was the 2021 AL Cy Young winner with the Toronto Blue Jays. He owns a lifetime 3.96 ERA, 4.07 FIP, and 1.31 WHIP along with 1,505 strikeouts across 226 appearances with four teams.
