Chicago White Sox left-hander Garrett Crochet is looking for a contract extension before agreeing to pitch in October, sources told The Athletic's Patrick Mooney, Ken Rosenthal, and Will Sammon.

This development is raising doubt that Crochet will be moved before the July 30 trade deadline, with the White Sox potentially waiting until the offseason to move him, Mooney, Sammon, and Rosenthal report.

Crochet is in his first season as a starter after spending the first three years of his career pitching out of the bullpen. The 25-year-old missed the entire 2022 campaign after undergoing Tommy John surgery.

Crochet has been one of the American League's best starting pitchers in 2024, posting a 6-7 record with a 3.07 ERA, a 0.97 WHIP, and 157 strikeouts across 111 1/3 innings. He's pitched two and four innings in his last two starts, respectively, as the White Sox look to manage his workload.

Crochet is earning $800,000 this season and is arbitration-eligible for another two years. He's scheduled to reach free agency at the conclusion of the 2026 campaign.
