D-Backs acquire Puk from Marlins
The Arizona Diamondbacks acquired reliever A.J. Puk from the Miami Marlins, the team announced Thursday.
The Marlins received prospects Deyvison De Los Santos and Andrew Pintar in return, two of the Diamondbacks' top-20 prospects, per Baseball America. De Los Santos ranked sixth in Arizona's system, while Pintar ranked 17th.
Puk should immediately bolster a Diamondbacks bullpen in need of high-leverage arms. The lefty owns a 4.30 ERA on the season but has allowed zero earned runs while striking out 25 over his last 16 2/3 innings.
The 29-year-old is under contract through 2026.
The Diamondbacks entered Thursday in the thick of the NL wild-card race with a 53-50 record. The club's 28-18 record since June 1 is the second-best in the National League behind the New York Mets.
The Marlins, meanwhile, have floundered to the bottom of the NL standings with a 37-66 record after a surprising playoff run in 2023.
