The Cincinnati Reds have acquired first baseman Ty France and cash from the Seattle Mariners, the team announced Monday.
The Mariners received minor-league catcher Andruw Salcedo in return.
Seattle designated France for assignment last week after he hit .223/.312/.350 with eight home runs in 88 games.
France had the right to refuse a minor-league assignment as a veteran with more than five years of MLB service time. He has one more year of arbitration eligibility before he becomes a free agent after 2025.
The Reds are paying half of the roughly $2 million that France is still owed for the rest of this season, per MLB.com's Mark Sheldon.
France owns a 113 OPS+ across six seasons.
