Tigers trade Chafin to Rangers
The Detroit Tigers traded left-handed reliever Andrew Chafin to the Texas Rangers for right-handers Joseph Montalvo and Chase Lee, the teams announced.
Chafin is being traded for the fourth time in his career.
The 34-year-old has allowed one earned run in his last 18 appearances and owns a 3.16 ERA and 12.2 K/9 in 41 outings this season.
The experienced southpaw has 489 career innings under his belt. Chafin joins Cody Bradford as left-handed options out of the bullpen for manager Bruce Bochy.
Montalvo is the Rangers' No. 19-ranked prospect, according to Baseball America. The 22-year-old Puerto Rican owns a 2.44 ERA in 13 starts at High-A Hickory this season.
Lee wasn't among the Rangers' top 30 prospects on Baseball America. The 25-year-old was a sixth-round pick in 2021 from the University of Alabama. He owns a 1.93 ERA and 11.6 K/9 in 14 minor-league innings this campaign.
This is Texas' third trade in recent days. It sent Michael Lorenzen to the Kansas City Royals on Monday and acquired catcher Carson Kelly from the Tigers on Sunday.
