Orioles' Holliday returning to big leagues
The Baltimore Orioles are again calling up baseball's No. 1 prospect Jackson Holliday, the team announced Wednesday.
Holliday struggled during a 10-game stint with the club earlier this season but has performed well at Triple-A, slashing .271/.431/.477 with 10 home runs, 25 doubles, and 38 RBIs in 73 games.
"I am definitely more prepared than I was last time," Holliday told MASN's Steve Melewski. "I've been playing pretty well and been happy with the past few weeks and how I've been swinging it."
The 20-year-old was selected first overall in the 2022 draft after a tremendous high-school career. He soared through the Orioles' minor-league system in 2023 before beginning this year at Triple-A.
The promotion comes after a busy trade deadline for the Orioles, who beefed up their roster with the addition of starters Zach Eflin and Trevor Rogers, relievers Gregory Soto and Seranthony Domínguez, and position players Eloy Jiménez, Austin Slater, and Cristian Pache.
Baltimore also traded infielder Connor Norby and transferred Jorge Mateo to the 60-day injured list on Tuesday, so its active roster is short on infielders.
