Tigers' Hinch: Witt is 'a generational player'

Detroit Tigers manager A.J. Hinch has been impressed with Kansas City Royals All-Star shortstop Bobby Witt Jr. this season.

"He can hit, he gets on base, he's got power, he's got speed. He's a generational player for a reason," Hinch said Thursday, per MLB.com's Dawn Klemish. "All those qualities equal a problem moving forward for anybody that plays the Royals."

Witt had two hits, including his 20th home run of the season, in Kansas City's 7-1 win over the Tigers. The 24-year-old leads all MLB hitters with a .350 batting average this season.

"He's the face of baseball moving forward, or at least part of the face along with a lot of other good players, and I don't say that lightly," Hinch said.

Witt has accrued 7.8 fWAR this season, the most among all position players. He has 61 extra-base hits with a 1.002 OPS, 93 runs scored, 78 RBIs, and 24 stolen bases across 110 games in 2024.
