Yankees' Cole to start Sunday vs. Blue Jays

New York Yankees right-hander Gerrit Cole said he will start on Sunday against the Toronto Blue Jays after a bullpen session went well on Friday, according to The Athletic's Chris Kirschner.

The 33-year-old was scratched from his last start due to general body fatigue, which may have been connected to a stomach virus he'd been battling.

Cole was, however, grateful for the rest the illness gave him. He'd thrown a lot of pitches in the games he started after missing much of the season with an elbow injury.

"I would sum it up as, it's still early for me. I'm six starts in and I've just hit my max capacity of pitches three times in a row. So it's early," he said on Tuesday, according to MLB.com's Bryan Hoch.

Cole has had an up-and-down campaign since returning from injury. He owns a 5.40 ERA in seven outings. He's allowed two earned runs or less in four of those contests but gave up a combined 16 in his other three appearances.
