Watch: D-Backs unload on Pirates in 1st with back-to-back-to-back HRs
The Arizona Diamondbacks brought the hammer down on the Pittsburgh Pirates in the blink of an eye.
Arizona's bats absolutely unloaded on Pirates starter Luis L. Ortiz during a wild first inning at PNC Park on Friday. Corbin Carroll got the party started by ripping a leadoff triple and then scoring on a throwing error by shortstop Oneil Cruz.
The D-Backs weren't done there. Ketel Marte, Joc Pederson, and Josh Bell followed Carroll's Little League home run with back-to-back-to-back big-league blasts to go up 4-0 before recording an out, leaving the Pirates stunned.
The next two D-Backs batters after Bell also reached base before Alek Thomas grounded into a force play for an out. But even that play was costly: Lourdes Gurriel Jr. scored on the force out to make it a 5-0 Arizona lead.
