Report: Twins agree to minor-league deal with Gallegos
The Minnesota Twins agreed to a minor-league deal with former St. Louis Cardinals closer Giovanny Gallegos, according to FanSided's Robert Murray.
He'll begin his Twins tenure at Triple-A, according to Theodore Tollefson of Twins Daily.
Gallegos was designated for assignment on July 28 and elected to become a free agent after going unclaimed on waivers last Friday.
The right-hander was once a valuable piece of the Cardinals bullpen, making 291 appearances for them over seven seasons, but struggled to a 6.53 ERA and 6.36 FIP in 20 2/3 innings this campaign.
Gallegos saved 45 games during his time with the Cardinals. His best season came in 2019 when he posted a 2.31 ERA and 11.3 K/9 in 74 innings.
The Twins' bullpen ranks fourth in the majors in FIP and 12th in ERA, but four of their arms (Daniel Duarte, Kody Funderburk, Brock Stewart, and Justin Topa) are on the IL. Steven Okert is also on the bereavement list.
